至 afreetrapper : There are two schools of thought on that. The first being that you can pack the powder tighter by using your palm as a hammer over the rod. The second being that if that charge did go off accidentally having your hand over the ramrod would send the ramrod and the round completely through your hand. So I kind of just err on the side of caution and subscribe to the second school of thought
